THE BEHEADING OF THE FRUITFLY (How will I know if you are truly a sentient being?) 2017 - 2022
12" single sided record with poster and booklet in co-production with Antye Guenther and Hans Gremmen (FW: books, Amsterdam)

This vinyl publication contains a 15min sound piece constructed of electromagnetic emissions recorded at the supercomputer. The booklet contains an original photo–text–work dealing with alien perception, detection and scanning, coding and decoding of hidden information. 

The sound piece is based on electromagnetic emission, recorded with coil microphones at the supercomputer JUQUEEN, which turns out to be a fantastic sound machine.

THE BEHEADING OF THE FRUITFLY as a project consists of three parts:
Part 1: data analysis is a 12 channel sound installation, constructed from the recorded electromagnetic emissions. The sound piece is accompanied by a text. This text describes the contemporary political race between the United States and China to attain the superior position in supercomputing. A fictional narrative is spliced into the text, which describes the event of intelligent behaviour emerging in under-challenged supercomputers.
Part 2: the scan is a live stream performance. Two performers physically scan the supercomputer in a choreographed routine. Simultaneously the two sound tracks are directly transferred into the exhibition space.
Part 3: a vinyl publication to conclude the project. A 15min sound piece will be constructed of electromagnetic emissions recorded at the supercomputer and put on vinyl. The booklet will contain an original photo–text–work dealing with alien perception, detection and scanning, coding and decoding of hidden information.
